Local Bus
Brisbane has a well-developed and extensive network of buses and bus routes. All the buses have their routes and destinations flashing on the digital display. The inner city has more frequent buses than the outer suburbs. Visitors can use the Go Card (issued by Translink) for public transport services. This card is a ‘touch-on touch-off’ system that can be used on trains, ferry services, buses and CityCats.
Cabs
Taxis are available throughout the city and at the airport. If the number of people travelling is larger than five, you can ask for a maxi taxi. Green cabs are also a popular way to get around the inner city. These cabs are eco-friendly and less expensive but they are only available on weekends or special occasions or on request. CityFerries and CityCats are great ways to tour Brisbane along the river. CityCats are high-speed catamarans that are popular among tourist with stops at South Bank, city centre and many riverside suburbs. CityFerries are the traditional ferries which operate shorter routes and have more frequent stops.
Local Train
Most of the train services in Brisbane travel through the city and usually have stops at Roma Street, Bowen Hills, Central and Fortitude Valley, regardless of their last destination. Interurban services with connecting buses are available to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast as well as Australia Zoo. Though the train services run from 6:00 AM to midnight, the services are extended on Friday and Saturday nights.
On Foot
Because of the compactness of the city and the Brisbane Rive meandering through it, there are plenty of sidewalks and bicycle lanes. Walking or cycling around the city is easy, inexpensive and fun.
