Auckland Festival
The festival celebrates the distinct and unique characteristics of Auckland and its particular Pacific style. Its main objectives are to engage Aucklanders in the arts, to support New Zealand art and artists, and to reflect what is unique about Auckland. Its program features more than 100 events including dance, music, cabaret, burlesque, theatre, ballet, visual arts, film, and public forums, occupying most of Auckland’s theatres, galleries and concert halls. In 2007 a dedicated music and cabaret environment (“Red Square”) was created, which serves as a hub where artists and public gather during the festival, day and night.
New Zealand International Comedy Festival
The New Zealand International Comedy Festival, is held simultaneously over three weeks in Auckland and Wellington and then takes to the road with the Comedy Convoy, touring to regional cities across New Zealand. The Festival is held annually and typically starts in April and runs through into May.
New Zealand International Film Festival
The New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) is a film festival held annually across New Zealand throughout the latter half of the year, starting in Auckland in July. The festival has a long tradition of supporting New Zealand filmmakers and New Zealand cinema.
Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) is a symphony orchestra based in Auckland, New Zealand. Its principal concert venue is the Auckland Town Hall. The APO is the accompanying ensemble for performances by the NBR New Zealand Opera and the Royal New Zealand Ballet in Auckland. The APO’s patrons are Dame Catherine Tizard, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir James Wallace, Dame Rosanne Meo and Vice Patron Dame Jenny Gibbs.
Pasifika Festival
The Pasifika Festival is a Pacific Islands-themed festival held annually in Western Springs, Auckland City, New Zealand. Celebrated since 1993, it is the largest festival of its type in the world and attracts over 225,000 visitors every year. The event is owned and hosted by Auckland Council. The festival presents a wide variety of cultural experiences, including traditional cuisine and performances from Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Tahiti, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Tangata Whenua (New Zealand Maori).
Lantern Festival
The Lantern Festival or the Spring Lantern Festival is a Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar. Usually falling in February or early March on the Gregorian calendar, it marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations.
