Berlin

The Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin, built on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II after the successful restoration of order during the early Batavian Revolution. The design of the Brandenburg Gate was inspired by the Acropolis in Athens.

The Reichstag

The Reichstag is a historic edifice in Berlin, Germany, constructed to house the Imperial Diet of the German Empire. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Diet until 1933, when it was severely damaged after being set on fire. Architectural styles: Renaissance architecture, Postmodern Architecture, Baroque Revival architecture. Did you know: The new Reichstag building, designed by Paul Wallot, had chambers for both the Reichstag (lower house) and the Bundesrat/Reichsrat (upper house, 1871-1918).

Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz is a large public square and transport hub in the central Mitte district of Berlin, near the Fernsehturm. Berliners often call it simply Alex, referring to a larger neighbourhood stretching from Mollstraße in the northeast to Spandauer Straße and the Rotes Rathaus in the southwest.

Jeweish Experience Landmarks

While heartbreaking, sites commemorating the Jewish experience in Germany are indispensable stops on a trip to Berlin. The city has three major sites- the Topography of Terror, the Memorial to Murdered Jews and the Jewish Museum. All three are powerfully designed and pay tribute to the people that lost their lives during the Holocaust, as well as portraying German accountability.

East Side Gallery

The murals of the East Side Gallery is a must-see for all lovers of art and graffiti. Along the bank of the river Spree, where the Berlin Wall once separated East from West, a remaining segment of the wall has been transformed into an extensive open-air art gallery. Rent a bike or join a cycle tour to fully take in the murals, which pass through Bernauer Street via Potsdam Plaza, and discover memorials, remnants of the wall and the old border watchtowers along the way.

Berlin Wall Memorial

To learn the history of the Berlin Wall, supplement the East Side Gallery with a trip to Berlin Wall Memorial, the last piece of the preserved, real Berlin Wall. See the original border fortifications, a viewing tower, the infamous ‘death strip’, and read much more information.
