Male, the capital city of Maldives has several markets selling souvenirs like miniatures of boats and mats, brooms and slippers made out of palm and coconut leaves. When in the market don’t forget to try some of their fresh coconut milk.

The best place to pick up souvenirs and gifts to take back home, Chaandanee Magu is lined with gift shops and stalls selling local craftwork which includes mats, miniature boats and T-shirts. The must-buys at Chaandanee Magu include Thudu Kuna, the popular Maldivian mat and souvenir-style Dhonis.
Male Fish Market
As the name suggests, the Male Fish Market is a market selling fresh fish and seafood. Though what is unique about this market is that you can find almost any kind of fish here.
MUSEUMS
Maldives National Museum
The National Museum of Maldives is located at Sultan Park in Male, which was the former palace of the Sultan of Maldives. It houses several well-kept artefacts of Maldivian culture, including coins, royal antiques, furniture, items of clothing, coins, embellishments and armaments. A visit to this museum is a must.
National Museum
This three-storey building is located in one corner of the Sultan’s Park and houses a collection of historical artefacts, ranging from royal antiques to stone objects, dating back to the pre-Islamic period and the Buddhist era. The structure is now the only remaining part of the original sultan’s palace.
National Art Gallery
The National Art Gallery of Maldives was established by the Government of Maldives in 1999 to showcase regular displays of Maldivian and international art works. From photography to paintings and conceptual works, the gallery has regular exhibitions, along with other promotional events like presentations and workshops.
