Egypt is probably the world’s oldest civilization having emerged from the Nile Valley around 3,100 BC, historically. Egypt is probably one of the oldest vacation spots too. Early Greeks, Romans and others went there just for fun, and to see the wonders of some of mankind’s earliest triumphs. Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is one of the largest cities in Africa. Cairo has stood for more than 1,000 years on the same site on the banks of the Nile, primarily on the eastern shore, some 800 km downstream from the Aswān High Dam. Located in the northeast of the country, Cairo is the gateway to the Nile delta, where the lower Nile separates into the Rosetta and Damietta branches.
The main attractions in Cairo are primarily the various historical landmarks that dot the area from ancient to more recent times. Perhaps the most famous of all the monuments and landmarks are the Pyramids of Giza located within the city limits in Cairo. There are multiple museums within the city, with the Museum of Cairo being the largest of them displaying artefacts belonging to the ancient Egyptian civilisation. There are also other attractions such as palaces, historical mosques, mausoleums, citadels and much more and Cairo is also known for its nightlife and various cafes.
