For many Czechs, the best way to spend an evening is at the neighborhood pub, enjoying world-class beer and some boisterous conversation. Here are our top picks:

Týnská Bar and Books

While Prague’s Bar and Books is part of an international chain, it’s just a very cool chain and provides a more sophisticated place to enjoy a fine wine or whiskey in an elegant surrounding with copper ceilings, dark paneling and crimson seats, just a stone’s throw from Old Town Square.

It’s a sharp contrast to the nightlife in Prague of say Wenceslas Square — which can get a bit boisterous! If you’re after an elegant evening of cocktails, surrounded by bookshelves, or want a quiet evening before getting boisterous — then this is the place to start.

Roxy

After a night of drum and bass or house music close to the Old Town Square? Then Roxy, one of the oldest and best-known Prague nightlife spots is probably for you. It tends to attract big name DJs as well as live music, has a large dance floor and a warehouse vibe.

Roxy’s both poplar with locals and also attracts a lot of young tourists. The busiest nights of the week are Fridays and Saturdays (obviously) but they also have a “Free Monday” event which attracts a good crowd. Drinks are (as always) cheap.

MeetFactory

What about live music nightlife in Prague? Well that’s covered too. MeetFactory is a great venue for independent music and is situated in a large old factory in Prague 5. It actually boasts a little more than music, being a modern cultural complex which features an art gallery, and theatre.

By night it’s live music on offer at MeetFactory — anything from large international acts to small local indie bands, as well as dance, electronic music, metal and underground parties. There are also irregular “special” evenings which could feature contemporary classical, or experimental music.

George & Dragon

Proudly labeling itself the best British pub in Prague, George & Dragon does have a lot of competition for the huge number of English tourists who lap up Prague’s nightlife, and it does have something special going for it: it’s slap bang in the middle of Old Town Square.

There are lots of things to make you feel like you’re really in a London Pub from the big TV screens and football shirts lining the walls, and of course some great British ales. George & Dragon also offers some traditional English food, and a Sunday roast, if you’re needing some energy after late night drinking the night before!

Jazz Dock

Some nightlife in Prague that’s a bit more sedate? Try Jazz Dock — beautiful jazz music in a beautiful venue — what more could a music lover desire?

This fantastic jazz club is located in a modern glass building on the bank of the Vltava, so it offers unforgettable views of Prague center, and a delicious romantic air. There’s a futuristic lounge bar, oh yeah and some lovely music too in a relaxed atmosphere. Music styles can be eclectic and progressive, so expect a younger audience. A music club that actually is as good as it looks!
