Local Bus
Local buses are the most common means of transportation in Auckland. The day pass lets passengers hop on and off any number of buses all day. This is a great way to see the city. Buses run all day long and the drivers are very helpful and will let you know where to get off. Travelling by ferry is a picturesque, serene change from travelling by road. Ferry services include Fullers, Explore Waiheke Island ferry service, Gulf Harbour Ferry, Pine Harbour Ferry and the West Harbour Ferry.
Cab
Taxis in Auckland are aplentyl. They can simply be hailed from the road side or booked over phone. Now it’s become increasingly popular to book cabs via mobile apps. Uber and Zoomy are extensively used in Auckland.
Hire
There are several car rental agencies in Auckland providing both self-driven and chauffeur-driven options. Some of the major ones are USAVE Car & Truck Rentals, Omega Rental Cars, Europcar, Avis, Budget, etc. The excellent network of bike paths in the city make it a great place for travelling on bike. Adventure Capital, Natural High and Adventure Cycles are some of the bike rental agencies in the city.
Local Train
The local train service has been improving over the years and is a good option to travel on weekdays and if one is close to the stations. There are four lines – the Southern line, Onehunga line, Eastern line and the Western line – running through the city.
On Foot
Walking is a great way to explore the city but since many of the scenic sights are an hour outside the city, you’ll have to use other modes of transport to get there.
