Bicycle

Züri Rollt is an innovative program that allows visitors to borrow or rent bikes from a handful of locations, including Velostation Nord, across the road from the north side of the Hauptbahnhof. Bring ID and leave Sfr20 as a deposit. Rental is free if you bring the bike back on the same day; it costs Sfr10 per day if you keep it overnight.

Boat

ZSG runs lake cruises from Bürkliplatz between April and October. A small circular tour (kleine Rundfahrt) takes 1½ hours (adult/child Sfr8.80/4.40) and departs every 30 minutes between 9.10am and 6.40pm. A longer tour (grosse Rundfahrt) lasts four hours (adult/child Sfr26/13) and departs at 1.30pm. Pick tickets up at ZVV (local transport) ticket windows.

Riverboats run by the same company head up the Limmat River and do a small circle around the lake (one hour). Board at the Schweizerisches Landesmuseum stop.

Bus, Train & Tram

Operated by ZVV, Zürich’s public transport system of buses, S-Bahn suburban trains and trams is completely integrated. Regular services run daily from 5.30am to shortly past midnight, with additional late-night services available for a surcharge on weekends.

Buy tickets in advance from dispensers at bus and tram stops. Either type in the four-figure code for your destination or choose your ticket type: a short single-trip Kurzstrecke ticket valid for five stops (Sfr2.70), a single ticket for greater Zürich valid for an hour (Sfr4.40), or a 24-hour city pass for the centre (Sfr8.80).

Car & Motorcycle

Parking is tricky and garage prices run as high as Sfr45 for a 24-hour period. Parking Zürich AG operates 13 garages within the city limits, the most useful of which are at Sihlquai 41 near the train station and at Uraniastrasse 3.

Taxi

Taxis are expensive and usually unnecessary given the quality of public transport. Pick them up at the Hauptbahnhof or other ranks, or call Taxi 444.
